Pork and beef: per capita consumption on the rise

During 2024, Mexico increased per capita consumption of beef and pork by 4.5% year-on-year. While the southeast of the country showed notable growth in pork, the northern region led in beef.

Pork imports

Pork imports from the United States reached their highest level of the year, with a total of almost 62,000 tons sold. This rebound responded to strong demand from Mexico and China, driven by a positive trend during the final weeks of the business year.

According to the Daily Livestock Report, pork shipment volumes doubled their usual average in November, which had been 26,600 tons. Mexico was the main buyer, with 15,335 tons purchased, which represents an increase compared to its recent weekly average, in addition to reserving 8,720 tons for 2025.

On the other hand, with the arrival of a new administration in the United States in 2025, the country has begun to prepare to face possible changes in the economic and political landscape, such as the imposition of tariffs by the United States.

From the meat industry, Mexico’s plan is to strengthen trilateral trade agreements and avoid measures that reduce profitability compared to other regions of the world.
